I was one of the lucky ones to be able to study Arabic in Rabat, Morocco during summer 2015 on a NSLIY scholarship. I left for Africa with no previous language experience at all, which to be honest was a very scary thing. However, through the language classes we took every day, I learned more than I ever thought possible in such a short amount of time. I gained a love for my host family, strong friendships with my group, an understanding of the different regions of Morocco, an appreciation for the culture, and most importantly, a strong foundation in a beautiful and complex language that I will build upon and use throughout the rest of my life. -Amanda
